I really want to say into diving and now that I have the best buddy ever my wife(*shameless wife sucking-up*), I want to explore some neat places together. So my questions are
1. What do you think is the neatest place to dive locally (a trip that could be done in a day)?
2. Why do you like this place?
Utterly shameless! ;) But, we are interested in staying active in the sport without having to spend all of our vacation hours as soon as we accrue them, so if you have anything within a few hours' drive of Huntsville that you can recommend, we'd love to hear about it!
Ummmm..... Local???? Not much diving round here other than Madison Rock Quarry and the TN river. I have been diving in the Tennessee and it's not too bad if you like12 inch vis . I have seen 10 foot vis but generally in winter. But it's a good way to get wet. Winter is usually better diving if you have a dry suit or fat like I am.
One place that's different and not too far is Loch Low Minn up around Cleveland TN.. I went there once a few years ago and it was cold in May. 5 to 7 mm suit will do. but a nice rock quarry within driving distance. Google Loch low minn to find it.
Let me know if you are interested in the river. Shore diving below Guntersville dam can produce a lot of lead from fishing lures and there are some bluffs in Guntersville lake. I have a pontoon boat but have trouble finding suckers to go dive the river or lake. This time of year a mask is optional.
I like Martha's Quarry just outside of Nashville. The buildings are all still intact. The crusher assembly and belts are still easily accessible. You can go all through the building and stairways. Takes about 2 hours to get there so you can do a couple of dives in one day.
